Craftsman GTX Riding Mower

Navigable appearance model

The Problem: A full scale physical mower was needed to gather customer feedback and asses the overall aesthetic design, comfort and control placement. Modern day UX research.

The Work: I created a full scale appearance model that could be ridden an interacted with. With extremely minimal information I designed and sculpted the entire front Hood, Grill, Steering column and instrument cluster. Additionally I completed the final finishing and detail work that included fabrication of “dummy” headlights.

Construction: Primarily Carved from 15lb foam, Ren Shape and plywood construction. Vacuum form headlight were created to complete the illusion.

Fun Fact: Foot pads are the only CNC parts. Everything else was shaped and carved by hand with conventional shop tools. Emerson 3D scanned to model as the basis for the 3D CAD data set.

Navigable Appearance model

The Problem: Coke corporate office needed a full scale model to evaluate gather customer feedback and asses design and functionally of the roadside cart for the South African market.

The Work: I created full scale appearance model that user could interact with. The design intent was provided so Part breakup and assembly was planned and executed. Consisting of a mixture of both CNC and hand crafted components. I resourced vendors print the sun shade and refine the umbrella mechanism.

Construction: Primarily consists of 15lb foam, Ren Shape and plywood construction. Vacuum form headlight were created to complete the illusion.

Fun Fact: I’m not crazy about the gold accents but is appropriate for the intended market.

Coca-Cola Cooler

Appearance model

The Problem: Coke corporate office requested a high detail appearance model of a cooler concepts

The Work: I created the 3D Cad data in Creo (Pro-E at the time) for CNC needed components. Coordinated with various vendors for Clear SLA tray, CNC ABS components, fabric components and etched bottom graphics.

Construction: Machined ABS side walls laminated with fabric, Ren Shape Core, Clear SLA tray (tint painted), Etched magnesium bottom graphic.

Props and Misc. Models

Various props used for film and television

I have created various props and marketing assets for film and television. From a hand carved shield for a cartoon network promo to Home Depot display assets. When working on film props, the goal is “good enough for camera”. This was a learning moment for me as I was so accustomed to finely detail appearance models where every graphic, texture and even the product weight was critical. Had to learn to simplify, simplify, simplify.

I have also included some more unusual models that required exotic finishes and prototyping processes.
